We are currently continuing business as usual as it is limited contact with customers in low numbers. Unless determined otherwise (ground travel prohibited, supply chain disruption... BC/AB sources tho so not foreseen, or diagnosed w COVID-19 of course), we will be continuing business as usual.
Please be patient as this is uncharted territory for us all &, as small business owners, we are making decisions & policies in the public's best interests as the information is being provided. Very little is still actually known about COVID-19 & we are taking all recommended precautions put forth by the CDC, Health Canada, & Northern Health as the precautions are being updated.
Due to some of these precautions (further cleaning protocols, delivery adjustments, etc) local orders may be somewhat delayed, however, we are doing our very best to ensure all orders continue to be completed & delivered within 7 days or less. Some of the precautions/policies in place are as follows;
-as always, safe handling procedures as indicated by Foodsafe & Health Canada are in place & followed stringently
-we WILL be disinfecting stringently on a daily scheduled basis with FDA/CDC approved disinfectant although we certainly prefer natural cleaners
-no disinfectants are proven effective against COVID-19, however, there is a list of recommended products at
https://www.americanchemistry.com/Novel-Coronavirus-Fighting-Products-List.pdf?mod=article_inline, & a list of active ingredients found at, https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2
-we will NOT be accepting cash payment, except in extenuating circumstances, until further notice to limit potential contact, transmission, & contamination (online credit payment & e-transfers are encouraged)
-we will NOT be engaging in our customer-provided reusable container program until further evaluation & notice, we WILL be utilizing current in-house personal/customer containers for current orders as have been in-house beyond the proven transmission time frame (a month or more)
- we will NOT be accepting recyclable boxes from our customers for reuse until further evaluation & notice
-we will NOT be accepting outside customer product for private grind/packaging until further evaluation & notice
-we WILL be recommending low/no contact while making deliveries to limit exposure for all & this includes deliveries placed by your door, on your porch, or in your garage as opposed to face-to-face interaction with yourself & your companion pets at this time, however, this will currently be at the discretion of our customers
We appreciate your understanding, patience, & continued support. We will provide continued updates as information is provided. Stay safe, stay home, & stay healthy all!

WHY FEED RAW A RAW DIET TO YOUR COMPANION PET??
First response?? WHY NOT?? Dogs are facilitative carnivores meaning they can exist on a diet not predominantly meat-based, however, they are DESIGNED to extract nutrients from & THRIVE on meat-based diets. Cats are obligate carnivores meaning they require a predominantly meat-based diet to SURVIVE & THRIVE. Science proves this based on anatomy & physiology. From the sharp canine teeth & strong jaws to the highly acidic stomachs (studies show 10 times stronger than human stomach acids & reflective of battery acid when pH is compared) & short digestive tracts, they are DESIGNED to digest a diet that is predominantly raw meat-based. Our companion pets have a digestive system full of the enzymes protease & lipase which are programmed to break down proteins & fats. Amylase is a digestive enzyme programmed to break down carbohydrates. Most mammals produce amylase in the saliva, while dogs & cats only produce a small amount in the digestive tract itself. This reflects their expected diet to be a majority of meat, organs, & bone.
CAN YOU FEED KIBBLE & RAW FOOD TOGETHER???
Recent studies indicate kibble may actually digest even faster than raw food (how much is not converted to waste has not been studied) & there is no harm to your companion pet if mixing meals &/or alternating. In our opinion, ANY real raw whole food is better than none! In our opinion (with people too), ANY step in the direction of optimal health is a positive one! Due to scheduling &/or financial constraints, for some the best option may be to feed a combination of raw food & kibble. A dog may not tolerate mixing meals for various reasons (so alternating meals is recommended), however, this is not solely due to combining the meals. Based on the above, you CAN transition to a raw diet by slowly mixing in raw food with an existing diet of kibble. In fact, we recommend doing so to limit potential digestive problems that can occur with sudden diet changes.
WILL MY DOG ACQUIRE PARASITES FROM RAW MEAT??
There can be parasites in raw meat. If you are purchasing meat, organs, & bone from a reputable source (human grade food), the concern of parasites is almost non-existent. Becoming “bloodthirsty” & getting scary diseases & bugs are scare tactics used by those uneducated on the subject, those who have witnessed poor sanitary practices firsthand, & large kibble company promoters. Most healthy companion pets (we ALWAYS recommend consulting a veterinary professional prior to transitioning your companion pets to a raw diet) can deal with parasites even before they get a chance to establish themselves, if the situation arises. Freezing meat can help kill many parasites. If feeding meats such as wild game, we ALWAYS recommend avoiding the brain & spinal column (IF something like chronic wasting disease.. host specific… is present, it will be in these locations) & freezing 3 weeks prior to feeding.
WILL BACTERIA IN RAW MEAT HURT MY DOG??
IF your companion pet has a compromised immune system for various reasons, bacteria may hurt your pet. If this is your circumstances, we also offer meals with a bone supplement that are safe to cook. Please contact us for further info. In a HEALTHY companion pet, the saliva has antibacterial properties (contains lysozyme) & the short acidic digestive tract is adapted to quickly push food & bacteria thru without giving it time to colonize. Sanitary handling practices (keep food cold til use & save a maximum of 3 days in the fridge, etc) will limit excess bacteria from producing. Even kibble-fed dogs regularly shed salmonella & other bacteria & kibble has been routinely recalled for bacterial contamination… not to mention mold & other deadly toxins.
HOW IS DRY KIBBLE PRODUCED??
Most dry kibble is formulated using a process called "rendering". The following is a quote from the National Renderers Association, Alexandria, VA "Rendering plants process a variety of raw materials from food animal production, principally offal from slaughterhouses, but include whole animals that die on farms or in transit & other materials such as bone, feathers, & blood. The use of these reclaimed & recycled materials in pet food is a much more sustainable model than using human food for pets". We disagree that human grade food cannot be a profitable market within the pet food industry & our meals are only formulated with provincially inspected high quality ingredients from ethical sources . We also acknowledge that certain non-human grade foods such as green tripe (not FDA-approved for human consumption) have significant nutritional merit, however, we continue to have concerns over accountability & quality control within the rendering industry & its relationship to commercial kibble production. We can all agree meat is expensive & is undoubtedly the most expensive ingredient in pet foods. Many commercial kibble companies have adapted by increasing the carbohydrate content (beyond what cats & dogs can readily digest, see above for further related info) & substituting animal proteins with cheaper plant proteins like soy bean which will increase the overall protein content on the label, but, hardly be readily digestible. Food for thought.
